Tim Perry
Title: Assistant Basketball Coach

Tim Perry begins his first season as the top men’s basketball assistant to Coach Craig Fletchall at Barton County Community College. Perry will assist with day-to-day operations, coordinating recruiting efforts and on the floor coaching.

Perry, a Swea City, Iowa native, comes to Barton from The College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY. In his three seasons as top assistant and recruiting coordinator, Saint Rose notched 59 wins and a trip to the NCAA tournament. In the 2003-04 season, Saint Rose reached as high as No. 8 in the nation in the NCAA Division II poll. In the 2004-05 campaign, Saint Rose notched a school best 17 wins in the prestigious Northeast-10 Conference. This past season, the Northeast-10 boasted five top 25 teams in the national polls during the course of the season. In Perry’s first two recruiting classes, Saint Rose inked the New York Federation Tournament MVP and the second leading scorer in the state of New Jersey. He also has helped place 4 former Golden Knights overseas for professional basketball contracts.

Perry arrived at The College of Saint Rose via Johnson County Community College, where he served as an assistant coach. In Perry’s two years at JCCC, the teams recorded a 36-26 mark. The Cavaliers placed 4th in the Jayhawk East as well as top 20 rankings in the country at the NJCAA Division II level during each of Perry’s two seasons. In assistance to Coach Mike Jeffers, Perry helped facilitate the placement of six Division I and II student-athletes. The Cavaliers also qualified for post-season play in each of Perry’s two seasons. In the 2003-04 recruiting class, Perry was instrumental in signing six academic qualifiers, a feat often unheard of in the junior college ranks. Coach Perry also served as an academic instructor and director of basketball camps at JCCC during the summer session.

Coaching at 6 different levels in high school and college basketball, Perry brings a wealth of experience to Barton. His first stop was as an AAU coach in Iowa City, IA. In 1997, Perry helped guide the Iowa City Runnin’ Rebels to an 8th place finish at the 17-under National Championships held in Orlando, Fla. In 1998, Perry earned a spot on Coach David Tremmel’s staff at City High School in Iowa City. Working for an Iowa state Hall of Fame coach in a program that was steeped in basketball tradition, Perry worked to create a new winning attitude and helped the Little Hawks finish with their first winning record in six years. After much contact and camp work in the summer of 1998, Perry was offered the top assistant spot at St. Mary College in Leavenworth. During that season, Perry served as the interim head women’s coach for the Spires. In the summer of 1999, Perry was honored to lead the East team in the Kansas All-Star game. In an exciting overtime finish the East prevailed over the West. The start of the 1999 season took Perry to Kansas City Kansas Community College.

In his two years in different capacities at KCK for Coach Jon Oller, Perry helped place five sophomores at the Division I or II level. Coach Perry also served as an academic instructor during his tenure.

In addition to coaching, Perry has been honored to discuss his favorite topic “defense” at a variety of venues. In 2005, he conducted clinics in Sydney, Australia as well as the Fiji Islands. He has served as site director for various tournaments including but not limited to: And1 High School National Championships, Bob Gibbons Jayhawk Invitational, AAU 15-under Girl’s National Championship, and the Missouri-Kansas All-Star Game. Perry was also active in the Irish-American community of Albany.

Perry currently resides in Great Bend with his wife, the former Kelly Rose Knapp. They are the proud parents of 3 year old twin boys, Timmie and John Patrick.
