Womsi and Bates III earn Week 18 Barton Sports Weekly Athletic Award Honors #GoBarton

Barton Sports Student Athletes of the Week for Week of 1/11/22

Barton Women's Basketball player Jenny Nkem Womsi and Trey Bates III of the Men's Basketball program have been named the week 18 "Barton Sports Weekly Athletic Award Honors" sponsored by Great Bend's Identifications.

Jenny Nkem Womsi snagged her second straight KJCCC weekly award honor while also earning her first national distinction of the year as the week seven NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

The reigning conference player of the week picked up where she left off extending her double-double streak to six straight games averagering 19.5 points and 18 rebounds per contest in Barton's 2-0 week.

Womsi started her week with a pair of career highs scoring 24 points and bagging 24 rebounds falling one off the programs single game record in the Cougars 87-82 victory over Seward County. The freshman concluded her week notching her sixth straight double-double in Saturday's road win at Northwest Tech scoring 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting while pulling down 12 boards.

The forward had her streak of six straight double-doubles end Wednesday night as her 22-minutes of court time generated seven poitns and eight rebounds in the Cougars 73-59 win over Colby Community College.

Trey Bates III produced an all around week for the Cougar Men's Basketball team averaging 14.5 points on 73% from the field while dishing out five assists per contest in Barton's 2-0 week.

Bates III opened his week dishing out a team high seven assists while adding 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting, collecting three rounds and forcing a pair of steals in Barton's 83-66 route of Seward County Community College. The sophomore carreid the momentum over in Barton's second-half comeback win over Northwest Kansas Tech scoring 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting including a 2-for-3 night from outside while collecting four rebounds, four steals and dishing a trio of assists. 

Due to health and sofety protocols, Monday's men's contest hosting Colby was postponed with a make-up date still undetermined.

A pair of road trips in three days are due up for the Cougar basketball teams beginning Saturday with a 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. tip at Dodge City Community College followed by Monday's 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. start at Garden City Community College. Barton's next home contest comes Saturday, January 22, in a 2:00 p.m. hosting of Cowley College.
