Barton men conclude home stand with twenty point victory over Allen #GoBarton #RoarCougs

The Barton Community College men's basketball team led virtually wire-to-wire Monday night at the Barton Gym cruising to a 98-78 victory over Allen Community College.

The second place Cougars improved to 10-4 in the Jayhawk and 19-4 overall in sending Allen to its seven straight defeat dropping to 4-10 and 12-11 on the season. Concluding the three game home stand unblemished, Barton heads back to the road Wednesday to begin the second round of conference play in an 8:00 p.m. tip at Pratt Community College.

Elijah Ford began his fifth double-doube performance of the year by scoring the opening bucket before the sophomore from New Jersey put Barton out front for good converting a hoop-n-harm with 16:16 left on the first half clock.

Plagued with ten first half turnovers helping the Red Devils stay with single digits, the Cougars got the separation they needed at the 5:40 mark going on a 10-0 spurt. Anthony Atkinson-Enneking had a big part of the gap widener finishing off an old fashioned play to energize the squad before following Martin Vogts' second trey of the half with a jumper in the paint pushing the lead out to nineteen.

The twenty point halftime gap held serve in the final tally as the Cougars shook off a 7-0 Red Devil spurt cutting the deficit to twelve with 15:07 on the clock. Consecutive buckets by Breontae Hunt and Demarcus Morris stopped the run as Barton would cruise to avenge the Red Devil's lone victory at the Barton Gym coming last season by three points.

Three other Cougars joined Ford in double figures as Leondre Washington led the squad with twenty-four points. Ford finished the night with eighteen points and twelve rebounds while dishing out a team high six assists and two blocks. Leading a thirty-eight point production off the bench, Morris contributed a career high sixteen points to go along with five of the reserves' fourteen rebounds. Morris also helped lead the squad's highest blocked shot tally of the year in rejecting a career high six. Vogts rounded out the double digit scoring with eleven points, nine coming from 3-of-4 shooting from long range, matching a career high six rebounds and dishing out a new best five assists.

Allen's Darius Love joined Washington for game high scoring honors with twenty-four with Perry Carroll's 4-of-8 shooting from behind the arc leading to a twenty point night and a team high five assists. Jamaal Clifton added fourteen coming off the bench.

Barton shot over 60% in both halves of play to finish up at 61.5%, the best since its fourth game of the season. The twenty-three assists was also a runner-up best
