Barton men outrace Redlands for 119-94 win in Best Western Booster Club Classic #GoBarton

A sixty-three point opening twenty minutes powered the Barton Community College men's basketball team to a 119-94 win Friday night over Redlands Community College to wrap up day one of the Best Western Cougar Booster Club Classic.

Leading by just three points with 7:14 remaining in first half action, Barton went on an 11-0 run to break it open as four points came on consecutive technical fouls via a pair of Redlands players with Martin Vogts dropping five of his sixteen including draining one of his four treys on the night.

The Cougars took a sixteen point lead to the halftime and increased it to thirty-four in the first eight minutes to cruise to the win improving to 3-0.

Akeem White's perfect 11-of-11 from the floor including multiple dunks led five Cougars in double-digit scoring with twenty-four points. Fellow returning sophomore scored twenty-two while Vogts and Leondre Washington added sixteen each. Diovonte Caldwell was perfect in eight throws from the stripe in racking up thirteen points as all thirteen Cougars reached the scoring column on the night. Washington and Dallas Bryson shared team high rebound efforts with eight each leading Barton to a twenty-five board advantage including sixteen on the offensive glass. Washington also led with six assists with Caldwell close behind with five dimes.

Redlands also had a pair of twenty-plus performances with Anthony Love and AJ McNeil scoring 26 and 24 points respectively with Christian Wassana contributing fifteen off the bench.

Barton will next play Spring Creek Academy at 7:30 p.m. Saturday to wrap up the Classic as the Spartans lost 111-83 to 9th ranked Hutchinson Community College. The Blue Dragons scored fifty-five first half points to lead by twenty four before having just a four point second half margin as both teams eclipsed fifty points in the final frame. D.J. Mitchell led five Blue Dragons in scoring with twenty-one while the Spartans Tyrus Ben Johnson led all players with twenty-three. Elijah Bishop recorded the lone double-double of the four games played on day one in scoring sixteen points to go along with ten rebounds.
