Barton men break away in second half for ten point win over Pratt, Smith with a career thirty-two point night

The Barton Community College men's basketball team broke away early in second half play Wednesday night at the Barton Gym earning a 91-81 victory over Pratt Community College to sweep the season series over the Beavers.  Leading by one at the break, the Cougars gained separation in the first five minutes of the second half while keeping Pratt out of striking range the rest of the way to win their third straight over the Beavers.   The victory also clinched at least a tie for a second place finish in the rugged Jayhawk Conference improving to 18-6 and 22-6 on the year while dropping Pratt to 7-17 and 9-18 overall.  Barton will next travel to Coffeyville Community College on Saturday for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off before wrapping up the regular season on Monday in the hosting of Neosho County Community College.

Anthony Smith posted his second double-double performance against the Beavers and eighth of the season dumping in a career high thirty-two points and grabbing eleven rebounds to go along with three steals.  Malik Toppin also had a double effort night for his sixth of the season scoring nineteen points and hauling down a team high twelve boards while rejecting three Pratt shots.  Jahlil Rawley and Malik Rhodes scored fourteen and ten respectively while distributing a team high four assists each with Rawley leading the theft department with four steals on the night.

Nearly matching Smith's scoring output, Devon Andrews led three Pratt players in double figures scoring thirty-one points in part to 12-of-13 shooting from the charity stripe.  Dawson Gunter and Devin Marsh each added ten with Marsh leading the team with seven rebounds.  Gunter and A.J. Banks shared team high honors with six assists each with Banks leading the team with three steals.
