Barton men run away with 125-70 win in preparation for conference play

The Barton Community College men's basketball team ran away with a 125-70 victory over Sterling College's junior varsity squad Wednesday night at the Barton Gym completing the non-conference portion of its season schedule.  Placing seven players in double figures with two posting double-double performances, the Cougars' twenty-seven point halftime mark ballooned to fifty-nine late in the game behind nearly 61% shooting on the night.   Barton will next begin the conference schedule grind on Saturday as the 4-0 Cougars travel to the 3-0 Trojans of Colby Community College in an 8:00 p.m. tip at the Community Building.

Making his Barton debut, Devonte Barker led all scorers while igniting the home crowd with consecutive second half steals and dunks in route to an impressive twenty point performance. The reliable Ezekiel Charles was close behind with nineteen going a near perfect 8-of-10 from the field.  Posting double-double performances were the inside duo of Malik Toppin and Anthony Smith scoring sixteen and fourteen respectively with Smith edging out Toppin for rebound honors by one hauling down twelve.

Malik Rhodes added fifteen on 6-of-9 shooting while dishing out six assists, John Barbee added eleven with four dimes, and Jahlil Rawley scored ten including a couple of highlight dunks to go along with a team high five steals and eight dimes.

Sterling had four players tied for team high honors with eight points including Brondrick Bell who also dished out a team high four assists.  Christian Ohler added seven points leading the team with seven rebounds as well.
