Cougars warm up after slow start winning by eighteen over Western Iowa Tech

Recovering from another slow start the Barton Community College men's basketball team controlled the last twenty-five minutes in an 83-65 win Saturday over Western Iowa Tech Community College in the Blackwell Tire Classic held in Ottumwa, Iowa.  Barton clawed back from an early nine point mid-first half deficit to lead by two at the break outscoring the Comets by sixteen in the final twenty minutes for the eighteen point victory.  Barton improves to 2-2 on the season heading into a mid-week matchup with the junior varsity of Sterling College on Wednesday in a 7:30 p.m. tip-off at the Barton Gym.

Derek Dorn led the Cougars in scoring for the second consecutive night scoring a season high twenty-two points on 7-of-11 from the field.  Dorn was joined by three others in double-digits including the near double-double from Ezekiel Charles.  The freshman posted his fourth consecutive game in double-figures scoring thirteen and hauling down nine rebounds.  Tyrone Acuff added twelve while Dequandre Dentmond scored eleven while collecting five rebounds.  

Kyle Menard shared team high honors with BJ Saunders with fourteen off the bench while Jalen Henriquez added eleven.

Barton shot 50% from the field in both halves on 30-of-60 but only 6-of-19 from beyond the arc while holding WIT to 38% from the field on 21-of-56 shooting.  The Cougars also showed improvement at the free throw line sinking 17-of-21 from the stripe, good for 81%.
