Cougars suffer first loss on buzzer beater

The Barton Community College men’s basketball team suffered their first loss of the season Friday afternoon at the Dodge City Civic Center getting beat off a backside rebound put back as the horn sounded to lose 74-73 to Fort Scott Community College. Having handled the Greyhounds by twenty-one points a week prior at the Barton Gym, the Cougars simply couldn’t put the game away at the free throw line going 9-22 from the charity stripe leaving the door open for Fort Scott to take. Following the Cougars connecting on only 1-of-2 free throws with 13.3 seconds, Barton couldn’t secure possession on a couple of opportunities leading to Dalton Rose’s rebound and kiss off the glass as the horn sounded. Barton slips to 2-1 on the early season while Fort Scott evens their season mark to 2-2. The Cougars will have little time to dwell on the loss as Barton returns to the floor Saturday against No. 19 State Fair Community College in a 3:00 p.m. matchup.
