Cougars race to 105-76 win; Fletchall ties McGovern’s mark in Cougar history

The Barton Community College men's basketball team reached the century mark for the second straight game winning 105-76 over the Sterling College junior varsity Tuesday night at the Barton Gym.  The Cougars broke open a five-point game at the sixteen minute mark of the second half by going on a 23-3 run to lead 81-55 by the 9:28 media timeout.   Barton cruised the rest of the way to win their third straight to open the season and earn Head Coach Craig Fletchall's 188th win at Barton, tying Dan McGovern's career mark in Barton history.  Fletchall will look to move into the top spot alone as the Cougars will play two games at this weekend's Community State Bank Classic held in Coffeyville, Kansas.  Barton opens play on Friday against Allen County Community College at 5:00 p.m. then concludes classic play on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. against host and No. 15 ranked Coffeyville Community College.

Darius Gibson, who today was named the KJCCC Verizon Wireless Player of the Week, led seven Cougars in double-figures with a double-double performance of seventeen points and ten rebounds while also leading in assists with seven.  Tyler Corley and Isaac Williams each dropped fourteen while Trey Unrau, Deriece Parks, and Josh Burdine each had twelve.  Travell Robinson was one of four players to come off the bench to reach double digits by scoring ten. Gibson, Parks, and Robinson shared the team lead in steals with three each.

Fayola Oyatayo led three Sterling College Warriors in double figures with eighteen.  Fredd Richardson scored all sixteen of his points in the first half while Josiah Ray scored twelve and led the Warriors with five rebounds.  Oyatayo, Richardson, and Jake Jaderston shared team honors with three assists each.
