Parker commits to Washburn University
Barton Community College men’s basketball player Turon Parker has verbally committed to play basketball at Washburn University next season. A NCAA letter of intent signing will take place at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2013, in Room P5A located in the lower level of the Kirkman Activity Center on the campus of Barton Community College. Public and media are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Parker, who earned second team All-Region and honorable mention All-Conference honors this past season, helped lead the No. 24 ranked Cougars to a 28-6 record this past season. Becoming one of the leaders for the Cougars, Parker delivered for Coach Fletchall posting solid numbers throughout the year. Switching between point guard and shooting guard responsibilities, Parker averaged 11.8 points reaching double-figures in twenty-two games this season while dishing out 3.5 assists per game. The Canton, Ohio, native also averaged 2.6 rebounds and 1.9 steals per contest while leading the Cougars with a 3.0 assist-to-turnover ratio.
In two seasons with the Cougars, Parker also helped lead Barton to a 54-13 record including back-to-back trips to the final four of Region VI including most recently to the region championship game.
