No. 24 Cougars charge back in advancing to region semifinals
Trailing by fourteen points in the first half, the No. 24 Barton Community College men’s basketball team came from behind to earn a 75-68 Region VI quarterfinal victory Tuesday night over Cowley College in Arkansas City. Barton shot sixty percent and outscored the Tigers by eighteen in the second half in advancing to Friday’s semifinal round of the Region VI Tournament against Seward County Community College. The 27-5 Cougars will play at 5:30 p.m. against the 25-7 Saints at Hartman Arena in Park City, KS with the winner advancing to Saturday’s championship. Barton split the season series with the Jayhawk West champions winning 79-66 in Liberal to begin conference play then fell 71-60 at the Barton Gym on February 2.
Algie Key recorded a triple-double with eleven points, thirteen rebounds, and ten assists as Barton placed five players in double figures. Freshman Trey Unrau led the scoring knocking down 7-of-11 shots from behind the arc for a career high twenty-one points. Fellow freshman Raheem Johnson recorded his fourth double-double of the season with sixteen points and thirteen rebounds to go along with three blocks. Turon Parker and Andell Cumberbatch rounded out the Barton double-digit scorers with eleven points each.
James Milliken put up thirty points while dishing out six assists to lead three Cowley players in double figures. Dominique McKoy posted a double-double with seventeen points and eleven rebounds while Ben Vozzola finished with eleven points.
