No. 24 Cougars end regular season with blowout, host first round playoff on Saturday
Having already wrapped up the Jayhawk West third seed, the No. 24 Barton Community College men’s basketball team took care of business Wednesday night in Concordia with a 79-57 win over Cloud County Community College. The win wraps up the Cougars regular season with a 12-4 record in conference play and 25-5 overall while Cloud drops to 5-11 in conference play and 14-16 overall. Barton’s next game will be first round play of the Region VI Tournament on Saturday as the Cougars host Allen County Community College in a 3:00 p.m. game at the Barton Gym. Admission to Saturday’s game is free.
Barton had two Cougars record double-double performances and was led in scoring by two freshmen coming off the bench. Freshman Kevin Kuteyi sparked the Cougars in the first half scoring thirteen of his eighteen points in the first half while fellow freshman Trey Unrau's 5-of-6 shooting behind the arc led to a career high fifteen points. Sophomore Andell Cumberbatch recorded his ninth double-double in sixteen conference games and the tenth of his career by scoring fourteen points and grabbing ten rebounds. Sophomore Algie Key's twelve points moved him into fifth place on the Barton career scoring list with 1152 career points and his ten assists marked Key's sixth double-double of season and thirteenth of his career. Sophomore Turon Parker was also solid from the floor scoring eight points and dishing out five assists to go along with a team high two steals.
Edward Dyson led three Thunderbirds in double-digit scoring with twenty-one while Gerrae Williams and Connor McDaniel each contributed ten points.
