Cougars turn slow start to big win at Highland Classic
The Barton men’s basketball team began the weekend in Highland, Kansas, by running away with a 84-51 win Friday over North Central Missouri College in the Highland Community College Classic. The 11-0 and No. 11 ranked Cougars will take on the junior varsity team from Midland University at 2:00 p.m. Saturday to wrap up the first portion of its pre-holiday schedule.
Barton broke open a 10-all tie with a 20-3 run to lead 35-23 at halftime against North Central. The Cougars didn't let up outscoring the Pirates 24-7 in the first ten minutes of the second half enroute to building a 40-point lead with 5:30 to play. Shooting over 48% for the game Barton also held North Central to 31.5% in cruising to the 84-51 victory.
The Cougars place four players in double-figures led by Raheem Johnson's fifteen points, nine rebounds, and three blocked shots. Algie Key also grabbed nine rebounds and finished with fourteen points. Turon Parker led Barton with seven assists while scoring thirteen points and Andell Cumberbatch scored twelve to round out the Cougars' double-digit scoring.
