Key adds national honor to week’s accolades

A few days after being named KJCCC Verizon Wireless Co-Player of the Week, Barton Community College men’s basketball player Algie Key has been named the NJCAA Division I Player of the Week as well. The freshman from Decatur, Georgia, put up a career high 32 points in Barton’s lone game last week, a 84-69 win over Colby Community College Saturday night at the Barton Gym. Additionally Key was instrumental in keeping the Cougars within one at halftime as he shot 8-for-12 from the field scoring 17 of Barton’s 35 first half points. Key shares the KJCCC week’s honor with Johnson County Community College’s Justin Leathers. Since Leathers plays for the Division II Cavaliers, Key is the Region VI’s Division I nominee for the second time this season for the national player of the week honors.
