Garden runs over Barton in West action
The Barton Community College men’s basketball team was never in the contest Wednesday night at the Perryman Athletic Complex in Garden City. From the onset Garden City put the gas pedal down while Barton couldn’t get its foot off the brakes in an 83-55 win over the Cougars. The loss drops Barton to 14-12 overall and 4-8 in the West and into 8th place. Garden is 1/2 game ahead of Barton with a 4-7 record in the West. The Broncbusters are 13-12 overall.

Highlights
When Ron Baker knocked down a 3-pointer 1 minute into the game for a 3-2 lead Barton would have its only lead of the night. It lasted 20 seconds. A 17-0 run in a matter of 2 1/2 minutes gave Garden a 23-5 lead and it was never a contest after that. Garden built the lead to 40-11 and eventually 56-22 by halftime. It was an opening half that saw Barton commit 14 turnovers resulting in a 24-4 advantage for the Broncbusters in points off turnovers for the half.
Garden continued to put the hammer down until reaching a lead of 48 points with 13 minutes to play in the game. Barton trimmed 20 points off the margin those final 13 minutes. Dennan Morrow was the lone Cougar in double figures with 15 points paced by a 5-of-11 effort behind the 3-point line. Avery Jirmson and Chris McHenry each scored 15 for Garden, which started the game by hitting 17 of its 1st 23 shots.
For their efforts, the Cougars now get to host the hottest team in the Jayhawk Conference in No. 21 ranked Butler. Butler has won 8 straight and now sits alone atop the West with just 2 losses. Butler is 9-2 followed by Hutchinson at 9-3. Seward and Pratt each have 4 losses. Butler took care of Barton at the Power Plant earlier this year by an 86-66 score to start the 8-game winning streak. Tip for the contest will be at 8 pm from the Barton Gym Saturday night.
