Barton remains unbeaten with wins at Booster Club Classic
The Barton Community College men’s basketball team remained unbeaten on the season with a pair of wins at the Booster Club Classic this past weekend on the Cougars’ home floor. Barton defeated Eastern Oklahoma 78-53 Friday night and posted an 84-69 win over Brown Mackie Saturday. Barton is now 9-0 on the season but will not return home until January and the Jayhawk West schedule. The Cougars will be in Pratt again this upcoming weekend in the Thanksgiving Classic. Barton will play games at Noon on Friday and Saturday. Friday the Cougars will play Cecil College (Md) and Saturday the Cougars will tangle with the Friends JV.

Highlights
Barton jumped out to an early lead in the contest and trailed only 2-1 in the opening minute. The Cougars had a 5-2 lead moments later and pushed it to 17-8 and eventually double figures with a 21-11 lead with 6 minutes left in a low scoring opening half. Barton led by as many as 14 in the half and took a 34-23 lead to halftime. The Cougars started the 2nd half on an 9-2 run for a 43-35 and Eastern never got closer than 13 points the rest of the way. Barton led by as many as 30 on a couple of occasion in the 2nd half.
Barton put 4 players in double figures led by sophomore Chip Steven with 13 points. Corey Bingham, Marcus Butler, and Josh Martin all added 11 in a very balanced attack by the Cougars. Bingham added 5 assists and Martin 4 while Nyika Williams ended the game with 5 blocks to go with 9 points and 8 rebounds. Bingham also had 5 steals.
Saturday's contest saw Barton and Brown Mackie trade the lead several times in the opening half with 8 lead changes and 2 ties in the 1st 16 minutes of the contest. Barton trailed 21-20 when Taaj Ridley knocked down a 3-pointer to give the Cougars a 23-21 lead with 4:20 left. That trey sparked a 13-3 run as Steven added a pair of 3-pointers and Ridley capped it off with a jumper at the 1:53 mark for a 33-24 Barton lead. The Cougars never trailed following the 13-3 spurt. By halftime Barton had a 40-30 lead.
The Lions had a challenge in them in the 2nd half, cutting the lead to 64-60 with 8 minutes left but the Cougars responded again going on a 10-0 run to push the lead to 74-60 with 5:43 left. Steven hit another trey in the run and Martin added a pair of baskets as well. Barton coasted home for there for the win.
Williams scored 16 points to pace Barton followed by 15 from Steven on 5 treys. Martin added 10 as did Dennan Morrow. Matt Simmons had good numbers, posting 8 points and lead Barton with 8 rebounds in addition to handing out 4 assists. Bingham led Barton with 9 assists and Martin added 5.
