Barton sweep foes at Sunflower Bank Classic; now 3-0 on young season
The Barton Community College men's basketball team cruised to a pair of easy wins at the Sunflower Bank Classic this past weekend at the Barton Gym. Barton defeated Labette 114-72 on Friday night then rolled to a 104-54 win over the Arkansas Tech JV Saturday night. Earlier in the week, the Cougars started their season with a 113-48 win over the Central Christian JV. Barton is now 3-0 on the season and has topped the 100-point mark every game so far. Barton will be in Pratt next weekend for the Comfort Suites Classic where the Cougars will play Barclay and Northern Oklahoma-Enid.

Highlights
The Cougars began to separate themselves from Labette Friday about 6 minutes into the contest. Barton led 17-12 before going on a 7-2 run that turned into a 22-11 run and a 39-23 lead with 5:45 to play in the half. Barton finished out the half with an offensive explosion, scoring 20 points in the final 5 minutes of the half to push that lead to 59-32. The Cougars continued to pull away in the 2nd half for the 42-point win. Cornelius Brown led the Cougars in his debut with Barton, scoring 20 points off the bench in 22 minutes of action. He added 11 rebounds as well. Marcus Butler had a double-double also, scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds while Nyika Williams did likewise with 13 and 11. Josh Martin handed out 11 assists in the win.

The Cougars had a tough start to the contest Saturday as the Arkansas Tech JV played with Barton for half of the opening 20 minutes. In fact, the Wonder Boys led Barton 20-17 with 10:55 to play in the 1st half. However, Barton closed out the half on a 33-4 run after that to take a 50-24 lead to intermission. The 2nd half was similar as Arkansas Tech outscored Barton in the opening 10 minutes and trailed just 68-51 with 10:24 left in the game. But Barton again closed with a 36-3 run to end the game including a 24-0 run that pushed the 68-51 lead to 92-51 with 4:14 to play. This time 7 Cougars reached double digits paced by Taaj Ridley with 17. Williams and Corey Bingham both added 16 with Williams recording his 3rd double-double in as many games by pacing Barton with 10 rebounds. Bingham added 10 assists for the Cougars for a double-double of his own. Dennan Morrow came off the bench to bury 4 3-pointers in a 14-point effort.

Earlier in the week, Barton put 7 players in double figures in the 65-point win over Central Christian. Butler had 19 points and 12 rebounds and Williams 16 points, 18 rebounds and 5 blocked shots to lead Barton. Martin had 14 points and 13 assists.
