Barton falls on road as Seward men turn in big 2nd half
The Barton County Community College men's basketball team led at the halfway mark of its road trip to Liberal Wednesday night for Jayhawk West action but the 2nd half belonged to the host Seward County Saints, who rode the big 2nd half to a 72-57 win over the Cougars at the Green House. Seward County outscored the Cougars by 19 points in the half to give them the home win. Barton's Thiago Cordeiro turned in a triple-double for the Cougars in a losing effort. The loss drops the Cougars to 15-7 overall this season and 3-5 in West play. Seward improves 17-5 and 3-5. Barton will back home Saturday as the Cougars begin their 2nd trip through the West when Pratt visits on Homecoming night at the Barton County Gym.



Highlights
A strong 1st half effort by Cordeiro led the Cougars to a 32-28 halftime advantage. Cordeiro hit 4-of-8 shots for 9 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as well in the opening 20 minutes to put him well on his way to a double-double. In the half, Barton limited the Saints to just 10-for-37 shooting.

The 2nd half saw Cordeiro block two early shots to give him 5 blocks as Barton held the lead the first 5 minutes of the half. But despite Cordeiro continuing to swat away shots on his way to a career-high 10, the Saints began to pull away. Seward turned the ball over just 3 times in the 2nd half, resulting in 11 more shots than Barton. Another big key was Barton getting no offensive rebounds at all in the 2nd half while Seward County grabbed 8 offensive boards and turned them into 11 points.

When Cordeiro recorded his 10th and final block at the 2:47 mark, Cordeiro had his triple double. The 10 blocked shots is No. 3 all-time in school history behind Alek Radojevic. Radojevic blocked 12 shots against Seward in early February of 1999 then followed the next game with 11 more blocks at Dodge City. Cordeiro now has

Cordeiro finished with 11 points, 14 rebounds and 10 blocks. Reggie Love added 11 points as well while Dominique White led Barton with 5 assists. Michael Tyree and Adam Tanner led Seward with 16 and 15 points while Keith Spencer grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds. Theron Wilson turned in a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
