Barton men's basketball signs 5 in-state recruits
The Barton County Community College men's basketball team inked 5 new players for next season and added a local redshirt freshman. In all, 3 of the 6 new players are from right here in Great Bend with a 4th just down the road in Lyons. The 5 signees will help form a bulk of next year's team, which has just 4 players returning from an 18-12 season. The one thing they all have in common is each of their teams was in their respective state tournaments this year, netting a state championship for two players and a runner-up effort for another.

From Great Bend, Coach Craig Fletchall signed the brother tandem of Scott and Jason Schneider. Scott, a 6-3 guard, was a senior this season at Great Bend High, averaging 15 points a contest and leading the Panthers to their 2nd straight Class 5A state title. His brother Jason, who signed with Garden City last year but redshirted and transferred to Barton at semester, will also play for the Cougars. Jon Pike, a 6-5 forward, was also a senior for the Panthers this season, helping them to the back-to-back state titles the past two seasons. Lyons' senior Blaine Clark, a 6-3 guard, was a 1st team all-state selection, averaging 19 points a contest for the Lions.

In addition to the 4 area players, Coach Fletchall signed Antowine Lamb from Highland Park in Topeka and Chris Jackson from Wichita Southeast. Both players were honorable mention All-City in their respective metro areas.
