Top ranked Cougars remain unbeaten
The Barton County Community College men's basketball team improved to 5-0 on the season with a 72-59 win over Grayson College (Texas) on the final day of the Pepsi Classic at the Barton County Gym.

In the day's other contest, Brown Mackie defeated Seminole State (Okla.), 92-81. Barton won the Classic with a 2-0 mark, followed by Grayson at 1-1. Brown Mackie also ended 1-1 with Seminole going 0-2.


Highlights

The No. 1 ranked Cougars jumped out to an early lead in the contest as sophomore Robert Whaley made his first 7 shots from the field. Barton led by a 41-26 score at half, hitting 16-of-26 shots in the opening 20 minutes.

The Cougars struggled at times in the second half, hitting just 12-of-28 attempts but were never in trouble in the contest.

Whaley ended the night with 24 points and grabbed 8 rebounds to pace the Cougars. Rodney Epperson tossed in 14 points while Randy Pulley added 11 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals.

Barton will be back in action Friday when the Cougars host the Pizza Hut Classic. The Cougars will tip at 8 p.m. against Bethel JV at the Barton County Gym. The Cougars will take on Lee College (Texas) Saturday at 7 p.m.
