Barton posts two more wins
The Barton County Community College men's basketball team remained perfect on the season with a pair of wins at the Cougar Booster Club/Walnut Bowl Classic over the weekend at the Barton County Gym. The No. 6 ranked Cougars defeated the Bacone (Okla.) College JV Friday night 149-71 then held on for a 76-73 win over Marshalltown (Iowa) Community College on Saturday.

Highlights
The Cougars rewrote the record books Friday night in their 149-71 win over Bacone. Barton set school records in field goals made (64), field goals attempted (113), defensive rebounds (46), total rebounds (85), points scored (149) and margin of victory (78). Eight Cougars scored in double figures, led by Aaron Patterson and Robert Whaley with 18 points each. Nouha Diakite, Rapheal Posey, and Jesse McClung added 14 each.

Saturday night the Cougars build a 39-20 halftime lead on Marshalltown, then held off a furious rally by the visitors. Marshalltown tied the game at 68-all in the final minutes, but the Cougars were able to fight off Marshalltown for the win, thanks in large part to a 16-of-20 effort from the free throw line. Jason Carter scored 14 for Barton, followed by Robert Whaley with 12 points. Whaley played just 13 minutes due to foul trouble. Posey added 10 for the Cougars.

Coach Ryan Wolf moved into 4th place on the all-time wins list at Barton County with the win Friday night. Wolf is now 70-11 in his third year at the helm of the Cougars. That puts Wolf ahead of Steve Forbes, who was 68-28 in three years. Dan McGovern is at the top of the list at 188-62, followed by Jerry Mullen, 121-66, and Dick Nagy, 99-97.

Next Up
The Cougars will be in Coffeyville over the weekend at the annual Jayhawk ShootOut. Barton County will play Fort Scott Friday at 5 p.m. The Cougars second game at the ShootOut will be Sunday at 11 a.m. against Kansas City Kansas.
