Barton County runs past Broncbusters
The Barton County men's basketball team is proving that eight is enough. The Cougars earned their second straight win with only eight players dressed, knocking off Garden City, 80-62, Wednesday night at the Barton County Gym. Barton moves to 7-5 in the Jayhawk West and 18-8 overall. The Broncbusters fell to 6-5 and 19-7.

Highlights
Keyed by a spectacular rebound dunk by Jason Carter, the Cougars went on a 25-9 in the final eight minutes of the first half to take a 48-31 lead to halftime. In those final eight minutes, the only field goal the Garden City was able to manage was a 3-pointer by Rolando Todd as time expired in the first half. In fact, over the first seven minutes of the second half, the Broncbusters could again manage just one field goal as the Barton County lead swelled to 25 points.

Four Cougars scored in double figures, led by Carter with 20. Carter also added seven rebounds. After putting together back-to-back 29-point games, Robert Whaley tossed in 16 points and added two blocked shots. Elisha Fields had a big game off the bench as the Junction City native hit 7-of-9 shots from the floor for 15 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Jesse McClung went 10-for-10 from the free throw line for the Cougars, ending with 12 points and four assists. Cody Rierson added five assists and brought the crowd to its feet late in the game as the 5-8 freshman recorded his second blocked shot of the season on a layup attempt by Todd.

Todd, who scored 42 points Saturday in a win over Hutchinson, hit just 6-of-15 shots from the floor for 16 points to lead Garden City. Leonard Harden added 13 points and nine rebounds.

The Cougars are back on the road after two home tilts, heading to El Dorado Saturday to take on Butler County. Butler County fell to Hutchinson Wednesday night, 90-62. The Grizzlies are 5-6 in the West and 16-9 overall. Tip is set for 8 p.m. for Butler County's Homecoming contest.
