Cougars drop contest at Dodge City
The Barton County men's basketball team dropped its second straight Jayhawk West contest, falling in Dodge City Saturday night, 84-77. The loss dropped the Cougars to 5-5 in the West and 16-8 overall. Dodge City, which is tied for the West lead, is now 8-3 in the conference and 16-8 overall.

Highlights
The Cougars trailed most of the contest, including the final 14 minutes of the game. Barton took a 46-42 lead with 15 minutes to play when Jesse McClung capped off a 17-4 Cougar run with a trey. But Dodge City went on a run of it's own, 28-11, to take a 70-57 lead with just less than eight minutes to play. The Cougars did close to within 75-70 with 3:22 to play, but could not overtake the Conquistadors.

Robert Whaley had his best night as a Cougar, scoring a career-high 29 points on 13-of-21 shooting from the floor. Whaley also tied a career-high with 12 rebounds in the loss. Jason Carter added 19 points and eight boards. McClung joined the duo in double figures with 10 points. Kerbrell Brown scored 29 for Dodge City, hitting 6-of-9 treys and David Truesdale added 25 points on 5-of-7 treys. As a team, the Conquistadors hit a stellar 16-of-30 from behind the arc.

The Cougars hit 50 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Conquistadors 41-34, but could not overcome the 3-point barrage of Dodge City.

Next Up
The Cougars have little time to ponder their second straight loss, getting back on the court Monday to tangle with Colby in a make-up contest rescheduled from January 30. Tip is set for 8 p.m.
