Roger Ward enters his third season as a volunteer coach with Barton Baseball, returning to  where his own collegiate career began.  Ward also returned home for the 2004-05 season to assist the Cougars before embarking on other career opportunities.

Coach Ward primarily coaches infielders and hitting, but is also an integral part of practice planning and in-game strategies.

Ward played for the Cougars in 1990 and 1991 earning 1st team All-Jayhawk West and 1st team Region VI honors during his sophomore campaign at Barton as a Shortstop.  That season Ward hit .395 while breaking school records in Hits, Runs, and At-Bats.  He also was the team leader in HR’s with 8.  His freshman season he was an Honorable Mention selection to the All-West team.

From Barton he moved on to the University of Kentucky.  Ward was a table setter at the top of the line-up for a Wildcats team that broke the school record in Winning Streak, and reached as high as #7 in the National Polls.

Ward also played summer baseball, helping the Liberal BeeJay’s to a Jayhawk League title, and a 2nd place finish in the NBC World Series in 1992.  He also played for the Hays Larks of the Jayhawk League in 1991, finishing 3rd.  Ward helped that club break several team offensive records from his lead-off spot.
