Former Cougar Alex King begins his first season as assistant coach of the Barton Baseball program.  With primary responsibilities of coaching the outfielders and as the first base coach, King is also in charge of taking care of Lawson-Biggs Field, the Baseball facility, and other grounds keeping needs associated with the softball field and track/field complex.

A Tecumseh, Kansas, native, King played multiple positions for the Cougars in the 2012 and 2013 seasons batting over .300 in his career.  As a freshman King played in both the infield (2nd base) and outfield (left field) batting .314 with six doubles, one triple, one home run, 32 runs scored, 20 RBI, and four stolen bases.   In his sophomore season King anchored the outfield as the starting center fielder leading the team in stolen bases with 17 on 19 attempts while also scoring a team best 41 runs.  King completed his season batting .298 with 14 doubles, two triples, while tacking on his second career home run.

Moving on to NCAA Division II Fort Hays State University, King started nine of his 10 games played before injury cut his season short and later awarded a medical redshirt.   During those ten games King batted .351 with a double, home run, seven RBI, and scored seven runs.

Coming off the medical redshirt season, King started in 38 of his 40 games batting .260 with nine doubles, six home runs, 20 RBI, 21 runs scored, and ranked second on the team in stolen bases with nine.

Graduating from FHSU with a bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, King wrapped up his final season at FHSU this past spring batting .320 starting 42 of his 45 games played with six doubles, three home runs, 23 RBI, 31 runs scored, and ranked second on the team in stolen bases with ten.

Prior to Barton, King earned all-state second team honors in Kansas Class 5A at Shawnee Heights High School.
