Fast start guides Barton Baseball to series sweep over Tabor JV
For the second straight day the Barton Community College baseball team benefitted behind a fast start as the Cougars completed its three-game sweep with another run-rule victory over the reserved squad of Tabor College.
Scoring a combined 11 first inning runs in Tuesday's doubleheader sweep, the Barton bats continued the trend on Wednesday afternoon at Lawson-Biggs Field putting up a five run first inning and never looked back in picking up a sixth-inning 13-3 victory over the Blue Jays.
Improving to 4-1 on the young season, the Cougars will embark on a three-game road trip beginning Friday at 3:00 p.m. against Kansas City Kansas Community College before concluding the series Saturday with a 12:00 p.m. twinbill.
Tyler Janssen, Hunter Alvord and Cooper Tabor each finished with two hits apiece to lead Barton's multi-hit performances.
Janssen's leadoff double to open the game sparked the big inning with two of five Blue Jay errors extending the frame setting up Barrett Donaldson's two-out triple plating a pair to cap the five-run first.
Alvord also turned in a two RBI afternoon with two singles scoring Donaldson's one-out walk in the fourth and Kyle Graves one-out walk during the six run fifth inning.
John Connors, Hayden Oviatt, Jaxon Case and Janssen each drove in a run.
Utilizing six different pitchers, Cam Bergstrom notched his first collegiate win tossing two perfect innings with two strikeouts before giving way to Cade Kunz for a perfect third inning with two punchouts.
Calvin Urish faced two batters before exiting with an apparant injury with Andrew McCarthy taking over going one inning allowing three hits and two runs.
Preston Golden and Tyler Stuhlsatz tossed no-hit innings with two and one strikeouts respectively.
