Barton Baseball snaps three game skid with non-conference doubleheader sweep at McPherson College JV #GoBarton

Led behind a balanced attack, the Barton Community College baseball team got back to their winning picking up a non-conference doubleheader sweep over the junior varsity squad of McPherson College on Tuesday.

Building up a 17-0 lead through an inning and half, the Cougars cruised to a 24-7 win in the opener with nine different players manufacturing an RBI. Going for the sweep, four different pitchers limited the Bulldogs to just three hits in the nightcap helping Barton to its fourth shutout of the season and 5-0 victory.

Improving to 28-11 on the season and snapping a three-game skid, the Cougars will return to conference play Thursday at Cloud County with the final two games of the four-game series against the T-Birds on Saturday at Lawson-Biggs Field. First pitch for the pair of doubleheaders is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. 

Game 1 Recap (W 24-7)
Cesar Gomez led the Cougars, 4 for 6 with a double and four RBIs. Gomez hit a two-run single in a nine run second inning. He added a two-RBI double in a three-run third inning.

Robby Bolin went a perfect 3 for 3 with three RBIs and two-run double in the first inning.

Cole Schieffer produced two of Barton's six doubles finishing 2 for 5 with two-RBIs as Jaron Cotton concluded the two hit performances going 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Barrett Donaldson drove in a pair with Hunter Seier closing out the multi-RBI outings coming off the bench to plate two runs.

Also providing to Barton's 18 RBIs were Owen ClyneAyden Hadley, Owen Bailey and collegiate first for Logan Erway.

Barton out-hit McPherson 17-7.

Anthony Treto (3-1) was the winning pitcher, working a season high 4.2-innings in the start. Treto allowed four hits and six runs while striking out six and walking two. Calvin Urish tossed the final 2.1-innings permitting a run on three hits with a walk and career high three strikeouts.

Game 2 Recap (W 5-0)
Gomez carried the momentum over producing two of the three RBIs for the Cougars in Game 2 and led a trio with multi-hits.

Hadley and Bolin had two hits each. Hadley drove in the other lone RBI finishing 2 for 4 with Bolin going 2 for 3 with a double to conclude his day 5 for 6 between the twin bill.

The Cougars used four pitchers in the game. Starter Nathan Bowman (1-1) yielding one hit and struck out one in his two innings. Cade Kunz went two scoreless allowing a hit and tying his career high three strikeouts. Jackson MacWilliams sustained the string of two-shutout frames permitting a hit, walk and fanning a pair of Bulldogs. Jordan Bedell preserved the shutout working a clean seventh with a strikeout.
