Jaron Cotton named Jayhawk West Player of the Week #GoBarton

Jaron Cotton Week 7 KJCCC Player of the Week

Jaron Cotton of the Barton Community College baseball team has been named the week seven Jayhawk Conference West Player of the Week announced Tuesday afternoon.

It's Cotton's first honor of the season and the Cougars third of the year joining Cole Schieffer's week three Player of the week and Reece Hemmerling's week five Pitcher of the Week.

The sophomore out of Leander, Texas averaged .500 at the plate with a 1.050 slugging percentage and .560 on-base percentage over five games.

Helping Barton to a perfect 5-0 week, Cotton belted both home runs, including the go-ahead blast in the series finale at Colby, securing the Cougars four-game sweep over the Trojans.

The sophomore shortstop recorded a hit in all five games with five of his nine hits on the week going for extra bases while driving in nine RBIs. Also, a threat on the base paths, Cotton stole a trio of bags and came across to score seven times.

Backing his player of the week honors, Cotton most recently went 6-for-16 with a .375 average and 10 RBIs in Barton's most recent four-game sweep of Pratt Community College. The sophomore turned in a perfect 4-for-4 performance in game two of the four game set with the Beavers finishing with his fifth home run, a double and nine RBIs.

Barton will wrap up its four-game road trip Thursday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. as the Cougars and Saints of Seward County Community College meet at Liberal's Brent Gould Field for the first two of a four game set before concluding the series Saturday at Lawson-Biggs Field.
