13th ranked Barton Baseball opens weekend set with doubleheader sweep at Pratt #GoBarton

Robby Bolin and Chandler Miller combined for nine of the 19 RBIs produced on Thursday helping the 13th ranked Barton Community College baseball team to a doubleheader sweep at Pratt's Stanion Field.

Trailing 5-0 and mustering just one hit through the opening four innings, the Cougar bats came alive in the top of the fifth pounding out four hits, plating six runs and never looked back earning a 7-5 victory in the series opener. In the nightcap, Bolin delivered a three-run home run and Miller turned in a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate driving in four helping Barton down the Beavers 15-2 in run rule fashion.

The victories push the Cougars out to a three-game lead in the KJCCC West standings at 9-1 and 28-3 overall, while Pratt falls to 6-8 in league play and 17-17 overall. The teams will complete the four-game conference set on Saturday at Lawson-Biggs Field in a 1:00 p.m. twinbill.

Game 1 Recap
Barton trailed 5-0 after four innings but rallied to take a 6-5 lead with a six run fifth inning.

The comeback started with a leadoff single by Grant Nottlemann flipping things back to the top of the lineup. Two pitches later Bolin drove across the Cougars first run of the day lacing a double to left field. Following a Riley Silva sacrifice bunt and walk to Ricardo Sanchez the lead, Barton pulled within 5-3 on a Beaver error bringing in Bolin and Quinton Robertson run producing single. 

Succeeding the second error allowing Ayden Blachowicz to reach, the Cougars tied the game on Dryden Howse's double to right that scored Robertson and Blachowicz.

The inning continued as a Hayman plunking and Nottlemann walk loaded the bases with Barton grabbing a 6-5 lead when Bolin drew a bases loaded RBI hit-by-pitch.

Barton added an insurance run in the top of the sixth as a Beavers passed ball brought in Robertson's one-out walk and second stolen base of the season.

Pratt brought the tying run to the plate generating a two-out walk before Bryan Bartels induced a groundout to secure his first save of the season and second of his collegiate career.

Reliever Brett Allen (3-0) notched his third victory of the season working 2.0-innings allowing a hit, three walks and recording three strikeouts. Starter David Stuart earned a no-decision scattering two hits, two runs, walking six and fanning a Beaver.

Game 2 Recap
Owen Reynolds (6-0) earned the victory, going six-plus innings. The Cougars built a 12-2 lead while Reynolds was in the game.

Barton scored in all seven innings with producing crooked numbers in four of the seven.

Wasting little time back-to-back one-out hits brought around a Silva single on Sanchez double to left. The Cougar lead quickly doubled two batters later as the first of three hits produced off the bat of Miller singled home Sanchez.

The Beavers responded with one of their two runs in the home first with a leadoff single marching home on a one-out infield single.

Bolin extended the Barton advantage blasting an opposite field three-run home run to left field trotting home Howse's leadoff walk and one-out Owen Bailey single.

A trio of sacrifice fly's and Henry Hayman's solo-shot to left for his third home run of the season and second in the last three games handed the Cougars a 10-1 lead through 4.5-innings.

Pratt pushed across their final run of the game as back-to-back singles drove in a two-out walk.

Back-to-back Bolin and Silva singles to open the sixth raced home on a wild pitch and Sanchez RBI single making it 12-2. 

Loading the bases with a trio of walks to Hayman, Bailey, and Silva in the seventh, Barton's final runs scored would come on a one run Robertson single and two RBI Miller single.

Reynolds allowed one unearned run over five innings, scattering five hits, three walks and fanned a trio of Beavers.

Colton Wahlstrom tossed the final two innings surrendering two hits, one walk and striking out a pair.
