The Barton Community College baseball team scored in six of Thursday evening's nine innings for a 10-3 comfortable victory at Hesston College.
The win snaps the Cougars' three game slide improving to 30-18 on the year in dropping the Division II Larks to 12-22. The teams exchange a return trip with Hesston coming to Lawson-Biggs Field on Saturday in another single nine inning contest slated for a 2:00 p.m. first pitch.
Charlie Peyla put the Cougars out front in the second frame driving a 2-2 pitch to the outfield grass to drive home Chandler Bloomer.
Pushing across the second run on a sac bunt, Brett Erickson later extended the Cougars' fourth inning with his first of three hits to score behind Peyla on Andrew Stewart's single to left putting Barton out 4-0.
Zach Curry surrendered just three hits in his five innings on the hill with one of those coming in the home half of the fourth in scoring Hesston's first run. The Larks put two on the board to begin the frame on an infield error and hit by pitch before the run producing hit, cutting the Barton lead in half with a ground out for the second out of the inning.
The Cougars answered the pair of runs the ensuing inning from Peyla and Tyler Bandiera run producing singles, tacking on another courtesy of a Lark error.
Hesston put one more run on the home line of the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth on a solo shot to left off reliever Easton Smith.
Stewart helped Barton put the finals nails in the victory, doubling home Erickson in the eight before capping his four RBI evening with a sac fly in the ninth.
Curry picked up the victory improved to 6-2 on the year in not allowing an earned run and striking out four. Coleton Crisp followed Smith's one inning of work with a pair of frames on the hill with Jacob Ensz closing out the ninth sending the Larks down in order.
Erickson led the Cougar thirteen hits with a perfect 3-for-3 night at the plate with four other Cougars chalking up a multi-hit game with Stewart's four run producers leading the trips across the plate.
