The Barton Community College baseball team dropped the series finale with Butler Community College as the Grizzlies protected home turf in 7-5 and 11-1 victories Saturday in El Dorado.

The four-game series split leaves Barton in sixth place of the Jayhawk West at 15-13 and 29-17 on the year with Butler moving into a third place tie at 14-10 and 28-17.

Barton's next game comes on Tuesday in a 5:00 p.m. single nine inning non-conference contest at Hutchinson Community College.

Game One Recap
Despite three first inning strikeouts by Jake Skala (4-2), mistakes loomed large in the frame as two walks and single were sent home on a grand slam homerun. A 1-2 pitch later and the Grizzly lead grew by one on a solo shot putting the Cougars in a 5-0 hole, added another in the second frame aided by one of two Barton errors in the game.

The Cougars began a comeback in the third behind Tyler Bandiera and Charlie Peyla leadoff singles to crack the goose egg on the scoreboard on a passed by followed by Chandler Kelley's sac fly.

Butler had just five hits in the contest with three coming via the long ball as the last one came in leading off the home half pushing the margin back out to five.

Collecting nine hits in the opener, the Cougars strung a pair of one-out singles together and added a walk to load the bases. Harrison Denk plated one on a single and after Nolan Riley's sacrifice fly, Barton's third run of the inning crossed on Chandler Bloomer's second hit of the game. A hit by pitch loaded the bases but would become three of the Cougars' seven stranded runners.

Game Two Recap
There were no big innings nor Barton comeback attempt in the series finale as the Grizzlies methodically built a seven inning run rule victory in putting up runs in six of the frames.

Knocking three out of the park in the opener, the Grizzlies hit four more in the nightcap including a pair of long balls from Javier Pena, the first coming in the opening frame with two outs and the second capping a three-run Butler sixth inning.

Easton Young took to loss on the mound dropping to 1-1.
