Sinks becomes latest Barton Baseball recipient of conference honor

For the sixth time this season, the Barton Community College baseball team has been awarded the conference performance award of the week as Michael Sinks earns this week's KJCCC Division I Player of the Week honor.

Sinks set another Barton all-time record this past weekend in leading the Cougars to their eleventh straight win.  Batting .500 over the course of five games, Sink's .625 on-base percentage from the leadoff position produced eight runs crossing the plate while driving in seven runs.  Already the Barton career doubles leader, it was only fitting that Sinks eclipsed the all-time hits mark in Barton history on a double as the Lawrence sophomore roped a two-bagger to center leading off the fifth inning to break the 163 total hit mark set back in 2002 by George Martinez.  Sinks began the week blasting his team leading tenth home run of the season then added three extra base hits the rest of the week finishing a home run shy of the cycle leading Saturday's game one victory.

The sixth award earned by Sinks joins right-hander Mason Hiser, fellow sophomore first baseman Trey Pittman, and the three honors of Nebraska freshman left-hand pitcher Jarrett Seaton.

Barton's eleventh straight win puts the Cougars' alone in second place in the West standings at 19-9 while improving to 38-13 on the season.   The now No. 18 ranked Cougars' next action comes Wednesday as Barton travels to winners of twelve straight No. 8 ranked Hutchinson Community College for a non-conference 5:00 p.m. nine inning affair before wrapping up the regular season this weekend hosting Cloud County Community College.
