Facing uncharted waters in the 2017 season, the No. 18 ranked Barton Community College baseball team rose to the challenge this past weekend earning a four-game split at Garden City Community College. Dealt its first one-day sweep of the season as the Busters grabbed Saturday's pair of games 4-1 and an eight run comeback for a disheartening 15-14 twelfth inning defeat, the Cougars answered Sunday's call to action with a 4-0 shutout before a series finale 4-1 victory. The series split leaves Barton at 7-5 in conference play and 23-9 overall while Garden City moves to 10-6 in the Jayhawk and 22-14 on the season. Barton will step out of conference play for its next contest, traveling to McPherson on Wednesday for a 3:00 p.m. nine inning contest against the junior varsity squad of McPherson College. The Cougars next conference action comes this weekend as No. 8 ranked Hutchinson Community College rolls in to Lawson-Biggs Field for a four game series with 1:00 p.m. doubleheaders on both Saturday and Sunday.
