The Barton Community College baseball team wrapped up its three game set against Iowa Lakes Community College Monday afternoon at Lawson-Biggs Field with a 10-0 game shortened seven innings to sweep the Lakers. Originally scheduled for a doubleheader, weather conditions favored changing the series final day to a single game nine inning contest but the Cougars' five run fourth and four run sixth ended the finale in seven frames. Winning their seventh straight improving to 18-3 on the season, Barton sends Iowa Lakes to their fourth straight loss dropping to 4-7. The Cougars will return to the home field on Tuesday taking on Division II No. 12 ranked North Iowa Area Community College in a 3:00 p.m. nine inning first pitch.
The back story of Barton's ten run offensive output was the play on the mound as Jarrett Seaton pitched a complete game shutout improving to 4-0 on the season. Scattering six hits in his seven innings of work, the Nebraska freshman left hander erased three of the base runners on pick-off moves, removing two runners in the first with another taken off the bases in the second. Seaton would surrender just three more hits in the final five frames sending the Lakers down in order in all but the fourth inning getting the aid of a twin killing in the seventh before punching out his sixth batter to end the game.
After a 6-for-8 performance on Sunday, No. 2 hitter in the lineup Corrigan Bartlett stayed red hot at the plate leading Barton's thirteen hits with three in his four plate appearances. Leadoff Michael Sinks and three-hole hitter Trey Pittman each collected two hits on the day as the trio produced the game winner in the third stringing consecutive singles giving Barton a 1-0 lead.
Paul Claassen and Taylor Langston were each 2-of-3 with Langston driving home two runs as the first capped Barton's five run fourth inning ballooning the lead out to six.
Lone hits by Dawson Pomeroy and Alan Clark both registered RBIs in Barton's four-run clinching sixth inning as Pomeroy's chopper up the middle scored the first run while Clark's liner over the second baseman drove in the finale getting Barton to the magic ten run mercy rule mark.
