Eight games into the season and the Barton Community College baseball team finally got to enjoy the comfort of playing at home, christening Lawson-Biggs Field for the 2017 with a pair of wins Saturday over Western Nebraska Community College.   The Cougars broke open a three-run lead with four in the fifth and a game clinching three in the sixth for the 10-0 win before holding off the visiting Cougars in the nightcap 6-4 to complete the sweep.  Barton improves to 8-2 on the season while dropping Western Nebraska to 4-6 as the teams will return to the field on Sunday for another pair of non-conference contests with first pitch slated for 12:00 p.m.

Barton got two strong games from its starting pitching, with Garret Rogers spinning a five-hit eight-strikeout complete game one while Mason Hiser's six innings of work was even better, scattering three hits while striking out nine as both sophomores improve to 2-1 on the season.   Andrew Repp picked up the other two strikeouts slamming the door on WNCC with two ninth inning punchouts.

Trey Pittman and Matthew Baca led Barton in the first game as each drove home two runs on doubles.  Alan Clark anchored the end of the lineup with a 2-of-2 performance with two stolen bases and scoring three runs. 

Brady Michel's lone hit of game two was a big one driving in two of Barton's three first inning runs in getting the Cougars off to a good start.  One of Cole Henley's two hits in the game helped keep the fifth inning alive for Barton as Trey Pittman would also collect a two-out single with the ensuing wild throw back to the infield allowed Henley to score to answer WNCC's single run in the top of the inning.  Kaden Fowler joined Henley in the multi-hit game including belting his first collegiate triple on a left field liner.
