Barton Baseball closes out regular season with sweep of first place Saints

The Barton Community College baseball team closed out the regular season Sunday at Lawson-Biggs Field with a doubleheader sweep of Seward County Community College.  The Cougars scored six in the second inning but had to hold off a Saints rally including a seven run fourth holding on for a 10-9 victory in the opener.  In the nightcap Barton outlasted Seward County 5-2 in an error fest nine inning victory in the season's final game on the home turf.  Barton finishes the regular season in sixth place in the Jayhawk West at 16-16 and 26-25 overall while the West champion Saints end the regular season at 21-11 in conference and 32-22 overall.

Next up for the Cougars will be a trip to Chanute in first round Region VI playoff action at Neosho County Community College.  The Panthers, who finished third in the Jayhawk East at 23-13, will bring a four-game winning streak and 40-14 record to the best of three series.   Action begins with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday at Hudson Field and if needed, a single 1:00 p.m. game on Sunday.
