Barton baseball cruises in non-conference rout, pivotal conference series approaching

The Barton Community College baseball team scored in every inning Tuesday at Lawson-Biggs Field dispatching the junior varsity squad from Bethany College 16-2 in seven innings. The victory moves Barton back to the .500 mark at 19-19 on the season heading into a pivotal four-game three-day series hosting Hutchinson Community College beginning on Friday.  Just two games in the loss column out of first place, the sixth place 10-10 Cougars and first place 12-8 and 24-13 Blue Dragons will begin play with a nine inning contest at 6:00 p.m. Friday before playing a pair of seven inning Saturday games at 2:00 p.m. and wrapping the series with another nine inning game at 2:00 p.m. Sunday.

Tyler Jennings and Trevor Turner had perfect trips to the plate as the duo were a combined 5-for-5 with three runs batted in to go along with three walks and three steals.  The Cougars had ten hits in the contest while five Barton pitchers limited Bethany to only four hits and one earned run.  Jayme Lovelace picked up his first win of the season improving to 1-4 on the season working three innings of no hit ball, walking one, and striking out two of the nine batters faced.
