Getting the scoring output the Barton Community College baseball team has been searching for in the early season, the Cougars couldn't keep up with the junior varsity squad of Fort Hays State University in losing 17-7 Wednesday in Hays.  Barton put runs on the board in five of the nine innings and outslugged the Tigers 12-10, but four errors and eight walks led to the ten run loss.   Barton drops to 5-6 on the season heading into this weekend's weather permitting conference opener at Colby Community College.  First pitch for each day's doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

Jacob Richardson led the twelve hit attack starting his 3-for-5 day leading off the game with a triple then scoring on Trevor Turner's ground out.  Turner was 2-for-5 on the day including hitting his second homerun of the season leading off the fourth inning.  Tyler Jennings and Josh Farrington each were 2-for-4 with Farrington getting his first career home run leading off the ninth inning for Barton's final run.  Designated hitter Bryce Minor, who made his first appearance on the mound pitching the final two innings for the Cougars, made the most of his one hit recording his first career homerun.

Great Bend freshman Tristan Hall took the loss in his debut lasting 2.2 innings walking two and giving up five runs on four hits including one of FHSU's three homeruns on the day.
