Barton Baseball secures region berth, drop weekend series at conference leading Hutchinson

If there was a silver lining to the weekend series at Hutchinson's Hobart-Detter Field, the Barton Community College baseball team clinched a spot in the upcoming Region VI Tournament.  The downside for the Cougars was dropping three of four games to the No. 19 ranked Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragons.  Hutchinson took Friday's doubleheader 6-2 and 7-6 but the Cougars grabbed the first of Saturday's twinbill 12-7.  The Blue Dragons clinched the series with a fifth inning grand slam to win 8-3.  The Cougars dropped to 26-23-1 on the season and 11-17 in conference while Hutchinson improved to 36-14 overall and sit atop the Jayhawk standings at 20-8.  Barton will host the Kansas Wesleyan Junior Varsity in a 3:00 p.m. non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday before hosting Pratt Community College in a weekend series to determine the Cougars' seeding for regional play.
