Barton Bullpen retires nine straight, Cougars score early and often in big win at Hesston

The Barton Community College baseball team jumped out to a six run lead Tuesday then put the game away in the sixth inning cruising to the 14-6 non-conference win at Hesston College.  The Cougars scored in five of the first six innings to build a three run lead then put the game out of reach with a six run sixth inning improving to 25-20-1 on the season.   Barton returns to conference play this weekend traveling to Hutchinson Community College for a four-game series taking place on Friday and Saturday.  The No. 11 ranked Blue Dragons sit atop of the Jayhawk standings at 17-7 and 29-13 overall while the Cougars need a big series to improve upon their 10-14 conference mark.  First pitch for Friday and Saturday's doubleheader scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Hutchinson's Hobart-Detter Field.

Evan McDonald went 3-4 out of the eight hole in the lineup scoring three runs and driving in two runs.  Scott Tyler's 2-4 performance produced three runs as seven Cougars had two or more hits.  Barton outhit the Larks 15-8 in the contest also drawing eight walks.

Michael Turner improved to 5-4 on the mound but the Barton bullpen of Craig Hamil, Tanner Shoemaker, and Alex Evans shut down the Lark bats retiring nine straight batters.  Evans put the nail in the coffin striking out three Larks in the ninth as the Cougars combined for nine strikeouts in the game.
