Red hot Cougar bats sweep doubleheader to take weekend series over MCC-Longview

Batting .477 as a team on Sunday, the Barton Community College baseball team swept MCC-Longview at Lawson-Biggs Field 12-5 and 17-6.  A day after pounding out twenty-six hits, the Cougars struck for thirty-one on day two scoring in all but one inning to split the weekend series against the Lakers.  Barton improves to 19-15-1 on the season while MCC-Longview drops to 9-18.  The Cougars will play another non-conference game on Wednesday traveling to Hillsboro, Kansas, to take on the junior varsity of Tabor College in a 4:00 p.m. nine-inning contest.  Barton will return to conference action on Saturday against Dodge City Community College for a weekend series in Dodge City.

Jace Bowman led the way in game one with five RBI, three coming from a left field blast for his first collegiate homerun capping the Cougars six run second inning.  Trevor Turner just needed a long ball for the cycle as the freshman from Hutchinson went 4-4 with a double and triple.  Wilder Fajardo also had a big game going 3-3 in the ninth slot while Jacob Richardson and Scott Tyler each had two hits apiece.

Barton got three more homeruns in the second game as the Cougars had ten extra base hits.  Braxon Byfield's solo shot to left field in the third inning tied the game at four then Scott Tyler delivered a two-out  grand slam one inning later to right field giving the Cougars an 8-4 lead.  Barton wrapped up the game with another two-out home run as Wilder Fajardo blasted a 3-0 pitch for a walk-off three-run homerun that cleared the Lawson-Biggs scoreboard in left center.
