For six innings of the first game of Sunday's doubleheader at Lawson-Biggs Field, the Barton Community College baseball team was in full control with a 5-1 advantage. However a five run Butler Community College seventh inning erased the lead and handed the Cougars a disappointing 6-5 loss. In a pitcher's duel second game, two Barton errors in the sixth opened the door just wide enough for Butler to grab a 2-1 lead in route to a 4-1 nine-inning victory. The two losses on the day drop Barton to 16-13-1 on the season and 7-9 in conference play while Butler, who took 3-of-4 in the series, improves to 18-9 on the season and 9-3 in conference play. The Cougars will step outside the conference for a midweek game Wednesday in Salina to take on Brown Mackie College in a 5:00 p.m. nine-inning game. Barton will return to Lawson-Biggs Field next weekend for a four-game non-conference series with MCC-Longview.
