Cougars score 13 runs in consecutive games, hammer Brown Mackie 13-2

The Barton Community College baseball team hammered Brown Mackie College 13-2 Thursday at Lawson-Biggs Field.  Scoring in every inning of the game shortened seven innings, the Cougars put up three runs in each of the second and fourth innings then put the game away on Wichita freshman Grant Watkins first collegiate home run, a three-run blast to right field.  Scoring thirteen runs in consecutive non-conference games, Barton improves to 15-10-1 on the season while dropping Brown Mackie to 1-15.  The Cougars return to conference action this weekend to take on Butler Community College.  Barton, 6-6 in conference play, will be taking on the 15-8 Grizzlies who stand tied at the top of the Jayhawk standings at 6-2.  First pitch for both Saturday and Sunday's doubleheader is 1:00 p.m. at Lawson-Biggs Field.

Every Cougar in the lineup got a hit as Barton outhit the Lions 13-10.  Evan McDonald was a perfect 3-3 scoring two runs and driving in two while Caleb Cherryholmes was 2-4 with two runs as the pair teamed with Kyle Cromwell to go a combined 6-9 from the 7-8-9 slots in the lineup.  Jacob Richardson was 2-3 in the leadoff spot scoring three times while Trevor Turner in the second hole drove in two runs.  

Freshman Brian Regan picked up his first victory of the season pitching 4.2 innings scattering six hits but walking six.  Craig Hamil replaced Regan in the fifth to strand two Lions, then pitched the sixth giving up two hits and one run.  Shane Adams kept the door closed on Brown Mackie in the seventh giving up only one hit.
