Cougar baseball explodes for 9-run seventh to win 15-3

The Barton Community College baseball team exploded for nine runs in the seventh inning to defeat the junior varsity squad of Fort Hays State University 15-3 Wednesday in Hays, Kansas.  Tied at two through five innings, the Cougars broke through with three in the sixth before putting the game away in the seventh.  Barton improves to 5-3-1 on the season with its next games coming on Monday, February 24, for their 2014 home opener against Midland University Junior Varsity.  First pitch of the doubleheader action set for 3:00 p.m. at Lawson-Biggs Field.

Scott Tyler led the Cougar attack going 3-for-5 including a double, homerun, and five RBIs all coming with two outs in the inning.  Tyler's third inning homerun gave the Cougars a 3-1 lead then later delivered a bases loaded double in the seventh.

Jace Bowman, Caleb Cherryholmes, and Trevor Turner each had two hits, two RBIs, and a double. Bryce Minor put the cap on the evening lining a double to left field to score Tyler for the Cougars 15th run.

Five pitchers combined for nine strikeouts while scattering five hits and walking four.  Andrew Ferguson picked up his first win of the season pitching one complete and striking out two.
