Karst named 1st Team All Jayhawk West; 5 Cougars earn recognition
Barton County Community College sophomore Clayton Karst earned 1st team All Jayhawk West baseball this past week, the only Cougar to be named to the 1st team at 3rd base. Barton had 3 players earn 2nd team All Jayhawk West – sophomores Kenny Burkhead (1st base), Marc Albers (2nd base), and Ryan Romo (pitcher). Freshman David Allbritton was an honorable mention selection at catcher. Barton finished the season 28-22 and went 19-13 in the West for 3rd place.

Clayton Karst
Karst hit .345 this season for the Cougars as the 3rd baseman. He hit 2 homers during the year and drove in 32 runs. His on base percentage of .469 was the best on the team. Karst also stole 5 of 6 bases and scored 34 runs. He led Barton with 24 base on balls. Karst's biggest hit of the season came in the bottom of the 9th when he homered to tie the game against Independence in the opening round of the Region VI tournament. Barton won the game later in the inning.

Kenny Burkhead
Burkhead led Barton with a .350 batting average this season in addition to pacing the Cougars in several offensive categories. Burkhead, the 1st baseman for the Cougars, drove in 47 runs to lead the Cougars this past season and had 16 doubles to lead Barton as well. Burkhead led Barton with 8 triples. His .590 slugging percentage was tops on the team as was his 95 total bases. Burkhead scored 39 runs this season for Barton.

Marc Albers
Albers played and started in every game for Barton this year – 1 of just 3 players to do so. Albers hit .337 for the season and led Barton with 6 stolen bases. Albers fielded .960 from his 2nd base spot. He scored a team-high 40 runs and drove in 25 for the Cougars. He was 2nd on the team with 9 sacrifices.

Ryan Romo
Romo was the only pitcher to earn recognition for the Cougars, tying for the team-high in wins with 6 this season. Romo posted a 4.06 ERA in his 12 starts – 3 of those complete games. He tossed a no-hitter at Cloud County during the season. Romo struck out 50 batters in his 62 innings of work and allowed foes to hit just .267 off him.

David Allbritton
Allbritton warmed up as the season progressed, hitting .320 by the end of the year. The 6-6 freshman catcher threw out 12 would be base stealers this season and picked off two more. He hit 2 homers and drove in 26 runs. Allbritton scored 34 times and had an on base percentage of .408.
