Field gets call up to Florida Marlins
The impressive spring turned in so far by former Barton County Community College baseball player Nate Field at AAA Albuquerque has turned into a spot on the Florida Marlins major league roster. Field got the call-up Wednesday and will be in uniform tonight when the Marlins travel to Philadelphia to take on the Phillies.

Field will take the spot of Rick Vanden Hurk on the 25-man roster. How long Field stays with the club may be determined in the next week as the Marlins as expected to have Ricky Nolasco and Sergio Mitre back from injuries.

This is the 6th straight season that Field has made it to the Major Leagues. The fewest games he has thrown in at the Major League level has been 5, which he threw in during the 2002 level when he broke into the big leagues with the Kansas City Royals. The next 3 seasons healso played in the Royals, posting career-best marks in 2003 and 2004. In the 2003 season, Field had an ERA of 4.15, appearing in 19 games and picking up his 1st Big League win. The next season Field appeared in 43 games for the Royals, going 2-3 with 3 saves and a 4.26 ERA. Most recently, Field appeared with Colorado Rockies last season, going 1-1 with a 4.00 ERA in 14 games with 14 strike outs in 9 innings.

Field was throwing excellent the 1st few weeks of the season for AAA Albuquerque, posting a 2-1 record with 3 saves. He has appeared in 8 games so far with an ERA of 2.89 and a WHIP (walks and hits per inning) of 0.89. Field has struck out 8 batters in his 9 1/3 innings of work out of the Isotopes bullpen and walked just 1 batter. He is currently 5th in the Pacific Coast League in saves.
