Harber has big day as Cougars sweep Conquistadors
The Barton County Community College baseball team put together back-to-back Jayhawk West sweeps Wednesday afternoon, rolling to 10-0 and 9-2 wins at Dodge City. That sweep comes on the heels of a sweep of Hutchinson Sunday at Cougars Fields and now gives the 3rd place Cougars a 5-3 record in conference play. Harrison Harber had a huge day at the plate for Barton, belting 3 homers and driving in 8 runs in the twinbill as Barton improved to 17-11 overall. Dodge City is now 3-9 and 5-23.



Highlights
Harber was never retired on the day, going 3-for-3 in each contest. He belted a solo homer and added a pair run scoring singles in the opener the picked up it up a notch in the 2nd game with 2 homers – a 3-run shot in the 3rd and a 2-run shot in the 5th – to go along with another single. It was the 1st 3 homers of the season for the freshman from Canada, who is now 2nd on the team with a .382 batting average.

In the opening game the Cougars received 2-hit pitching effort from Justin. Randa faced just 3 batters over the limit in the 5-inning shutout – his 1st win of the season. Randa (1-2) struck out four and walked just one. Barton took the lead in the 3rd inning when Harber led off with a solo homer. Steve Elson later drove in Andrew Giambrone for a 2-0 lead. That lead grew to 4-0 in the 4th inning when Andrew Small doubled in Jeff Christy and scored on a Harber single. Barton added 6 runs in the 5th as Christy, Cook, Newton, and Harber each drove in runs before Giambrone pushed the lead 10-0 on a 2-run triple.

In the 2nd game, the Cougars broke open a scoreless game with a 5-run 3rd inning. A pair of singles and a pair walks to start the inning gave the Cougars 1-0 lead. Wes Renfro, who had single earlier in the inning, scored on a double play to make it 2-0. Following a walk, Harber blasted a 3-run homer to give the Cougars a 5-0 lead.

After the Conquistadors cut the lead to 5-2, Harber hit his 2nd homer of the game – this time a 2-run shot to give Barton a 7-2 in the 5th. Renfro belted a homer in his 2nd straight doubleheader with a 2-run shot in the 6th. That gives Renfro 3 homers on the season – tied with Harber for the team lead. His 25 runs scored leads the team.
