Wagner no hits Butler; Cougars earn sweep of Grizzlies

The Barton County Community College baseball team received its standard solid pitching outsing Sunday afternoon in El Dorado. But during the sweep of the Grizzlies it was even better than normal. Barton allowed just 1 run in 2 games, including a 1-0 no-hit effort from Ryan Wagner in the nightcap to close out the sweep. Barton won the opener 9-1 behind Ryan Phillips' 8th win of the season. The Cougars (31-17) have won 7 straight West games – the longest winning streak of the season – to improve to 19-9 in the West, still battling Hutchinson for that 2nd spot. With the win, the Cougars secured a home playoff series to start the Region VI playoffs in two weeks. Hutch is 20-9. Barton, which holds the tiebreaker with the Blue Dragons, has 4 games to play while Hutch has 3 left. Butler fell to 12-17 in the West and 21-25 overall.
