Barton steps outside Jayhawk; runs winning streak to 7
The Barton County Community College baseball team has put together its longest winning streak of the season after sweeping a pair of games in Salina Thursday against Brown Mackie. Barton won the non-conference contests 11-2 and 8-5. The wins give the Cougars a 7-game winning streak. Barton has won 9 of its last 10 games.



The Cougars are now 19-11 overall and remain 8-4 and in 3rd place in the Jayhawk West. Brown Mackie is now 3-14.

Highlights
The Cougars never trailed in the opener and blew the game wide open in the 5th inning with an 8-run outburst. Barton took a 3-0 lead in the 2nd inning on just one hit as Brown Mackie helped the Cougars around the bases.

In the 5th inning the Cougars used 5 hits to produce 8 runs. Glenn Jackson hit a 2-run homer and Josh Schaub also drove in a pair with a single to highlight the 8-run inning and give Barton the 11-2 lead. T.J. Liles and Anthony Flores each had two hits for the Cougars. It was Jackson's team-leading 6th home run of the season.

David McDaid gave up just two runs in pitching the complete game for Barton, improving to 2-1 on the season. McDaid struck out 8 and walked just 2.

In the nightcap, the Cougars had to rally for the win. Brown Mackie jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the 3rd inning. Jackson and Jeff Christy drove in runs in the 4th to cut the lead in half and Barton tied the game in the 5th. Schaub and Jackson each drove in runs for Barton. For Jackson it was his team leading 30th RBI.

Barton scored 3 times in the 6th to take lead. Jerry Cook gave them the lead with a single that scored Mark Newton. Schaub later drove in Adam Searle and Cook with a 1-out, bases loaded single.

Chris Klick survived the rough start to go 6 innings and pick up the win to move to 3-1 for the year.
