20th ranked Barton Volleyball stays focused for seventh straight, Cougars pick up 3-1 victory at Garden City #GoBarton

Coming off a big victory Wednesday, the 20th ranked Barton Community College volleyball team kept its focus Saturday with a 3-1 victory at Garden City Community College (25-23, 25-19, 21-25, and 25-22).

The seventh straight win keeps Barton atop the standings at 8-1 and 18-3 overall while Garden City falls to 3-5 in league and 13-9 overall.

Following a week away from competition, Barton's next match comes Saturday, October 7, in a 2:00 p.m. first serve hosting Dodge City Community College.

The Cougars put together a pair of exceptionally efficient frames, hitting for .444 in the second followed by a .341 attack in the match deciding fourth set while defensively putting up 12 walls of denial in posting its third double-digit blockade effort in the last four matches.

A trio of Cougars reached double-digit kills led by reigning conference player of the week's Phoebe Reyes' 14 kills on a .323 attack. Mya Thompson put down 12 kills with a career high 6 blocks while Kassidy Nixon recorded her 5th double-double of the year behind 11 digs and 10 kills on a team high .385 attack to accompany the matching of her career high 4 blocks.

Anna Wierzbicki contributed 7 kills on a .353 efficiency and added a career high 9 blocks including one being of the solo variety.

Double-double efforts were recorded by the Cougars' 6-2 attack quarterbacks, Elena Stankovic putting up 26 assists and 10 digs for her 4th of the season with Maurin Reyes adding 13 digs to her 19 assist afternoon to post her third straight and team leading 7th double-double performance.

Clara Lindstrom led five Cougars in double-digit digs with 19 as Naya Danenberg collected 10.
